Mike Wells Principal Audiologist

Mike Wells BA, MA, PG Dip, RHAD trained as an Audiologist in 2007 having previously completed a Master of Arts degree at university. Since then Mike has gained clinical experience practising in both the NHS and the private audiology sectors. Latterly, Mike has worked for several national hearing care providers and more recently, since 2014, working as a specialist for a prestigious Harley Street Clinic in the dispensing of hearing aids and the treatment of tinnitus patients. Mike brings this wealth of experience to the Ripon Clinic, benefiting patients in the diagnosis, treatment and management of hearing-related conditions.

I had an unusual route into the profession. Having studied Economics at university I then began a career in finance and I.T. I quickly came to the realisation that this choice of profession wasn’t for me and in 2006 I decided to change direction and re-train to become an audiologist.

I really enjoy the interaction that I have on a daily basis with my patients. It’s very satisfying when a patient who needs help with any aspect of their hearing health comes into the practice and we are able to work together to achieve the outcome they need to improve their wellbeing and quality of life.

I’ve had a long-held ambition to start my own practice so that I can offer the skills and services that I’ve learnt over the last thirteen years in a setting that meets, and hopefully exceeds, the expectations of my customers. I wanted to take the best of clinical practice from both the NHS and private sectors and blend that with a truly personal and unique customer service that puts my patients at the centre of everything we do. I not only want my patients to experience the real benefits that modern hearing aid technology can offer them, but also enjoy the journey along the way to better hearing.

As a family, North Yorkshire has always been one of our favourite holiday destinations. The beautiful landscapes and open spaces of the county provide a sense of wellbeing and serenity that it’s difficult to find elsewhere. It was therefore a natural choice for us, as a family, to relocate here when the opportunity arose.

I have a young daughter, Sophia, who is two years old. As a family we like to get out and about at the weekend and explore the local countryside and enjoy outdoor activities. I also enjoy motorsport as well as other sports such as golf and football. If I have a quiet moment, I like to spend some time reading or watching the occasional film on Netflix.
